WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Predictions(Blog Only)

I’m still not over my cold, so this will be a blog format only. When I post the review on Monday, hopefully I can do an audio version of it.

Six-Man Tag
Kalisto, Lince Dorado, and Grand Metallic vs. TJP, Jack Gallagher, and Drew Gulak

Winners: Kalisto, Lince Dorado, and Grand Metallic

Honestly, I don’t really care for this match. My guess is that it will kick-off the pre-show, and the face cruiserweights will get the win. After Enzo’s firing, they really need to start rebuilding the cruiserweight division.

Tag Team Match
Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. The Revival

Winners: The Revival

After losing to the Balor Club in 2 minutes, and getting embarrassed by Kliq at RAW25, I fully expect the Revival to pick up the win and look really strong doing it. They pretty much added this match just to get both of these teams on the card so we don’t expect them in the Royal Rumble match. The Rumble crowd should be a smarky crowd, so both teams should be well received by the Philly crowd. If it’s given enough time, I think it could be a good match. This was one of the feuds I wanted to see before The Revival got sidelined last year. I’m hoping it’s more than just a 5 minute basic RAW tag team match.

United States Championship
Bobby Roode(c) vs. TBA

Winner: Bobby Roode

This is the first big mystery of the night. They said that Bobby Roode will be offering an open challenge. Since Baron Corbin has already declared for the Royal Rumble, I don’t think he will be in the match. If Dolph Ziggler returns, I really doubt it will be in this match. My money is on Jinder Mahal taking the open challenge. Whether or not, either of these wrestlers will be in the Rumble is a mystery. You would think they would want the new US champion to be in the Royal Rumble match, but they usually don’t book wrestlers twice during the Rumble PPV. Unless it’s someone like Roman Reigns. With that said, I fully expect Bobby Roode to win this match to close out the pre-show.

Main Card

WWE RAW Tag Team Championship
Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan(c) vs. The Bar(Sheamus & Cesaro)

Winners: Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan

They have already started the dissension between Rollins and Jordan on RAW. So my guess is that it continues here, but they somehow still retain the tag titles. Then on an upcoming RAW, they will lose the titles due to there lack of cohesiveness, then at Elimination Chamber, they will officially break up. All leading to a match between Jordan and Rollins at WM34. I’m not sure what’s next for the Bar, I wouldn’t be against the idea of the Bar winning the tag titles again, but I don’t think it’s going to be right here. Could it be a good match? Sure, all 4 wrestlers are capable tag team wrestlers. Do I actually care about this match? No.

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship
2-Out-of-3-falls Match
The Usos(c) vs. Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin

Winners: Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin

This should be a fantastic match. I’m curious how long the actual match will be, but it should be entertaining nonetheless. While Gable and Benjamin are more like American Alpha-lite, they are still a pretty entertaining tag teams. The Usos track record speaks for itself. The Smackdown tag team division has been a little dull as of late, so I think Gable & Benjamin winning right here would be a nice spark. The Usos always do a good job of chasing the tag titles. On top of that, that opens the door to The New Day entering back into title contention going into Wrestlemania.

WWE Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar(c) vs. Kane vs. Braun Strowman

Winner: Brock Lesnar

I don’t care about this match. I want Braun to win, but that’s not going to happen. Whatever. Brock walks away with the title in the most predictable match on the card. NEXT!

WWE Championship
Handicap Match
AJ Styles(c) vs. Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens

Winner: AJ Styles

For as much as I would like to see Sami and Kevin somehow pull this out, I don’t see that happening. Hopefully, this match isn’t as over booked as that terrible tag team match from Clash of Champions. Rumor going around is that Kevin Owens is nursing a back injury, which is why they had him lose so quick to AJ on SDL this past week. All three guys are fantastic workers, so hopefully they can get past the terrible stipulation and put on a fun match. I hope WWE does the more interesting thing, and has KO & Sami become Co-WWE Champions, but I just don’t see that happening. If we are being honest with ourselves, this will probably Sami’s last and only WWE Championship match for the foreseeable future.

Women’s Royal Rumble Match

I only see this match going two ways, it’s either going to be Asuka or Ronda Rousey. Some people have thrown the prediction out there than Nia Jax is a dark horse candidate, but I just don’t see that happening. Before I pick the winner, I will also try to predict who the surprise entrants are, the Iron Women of the match(longest time in the match, most eliminations, and the final four.

Surprise Entrants: Trish Stratus, Michelle McCool, Kharma, Beth Pheonix, and Ronda Rousey
Iron Woman:
Sasha Banks – 57 minutes
Most Eliminations: Asuka – 8
Final Four: Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey, and Asuka.

Yes, I think Ronda Rousey will be in the Rumble. We’ll she win? She is the betting odds favorite, but I’m not too sure. WWE giving the first ever women’s royal rumble win to a rookie in the wrestling scene, that doesn’t seem like it would go over well with the locker room or the hardcore fans.  Though, that hasn’t stopped WWE before. Also, Rousey is completely untested as a wrestler. While she may be all in right now, who knows what can change after 3-6 months. She may decide that a life of a pro wrestler is not worth the beatings they take on a daily basis. WWE would be taking a HUGE risk with Rousey. Another thing, The money match would be between Rousey and Charlotte, but would they really put one of the biggest names in the company on the “B” show? I say she will make an appearance in the Rumble, but go away after that to train more at the performance center. Then she will make her official debut sometime later this year. So with that said, my pick for the rumble is Asuka. WWE hasn’t given Asuka a huge win yet, so this would be the perfect opportunity to show how much of a badass she is.

Winner: Asuka

Men’s Royal Rumble Match

If you go by the betting odds, there are a couple of obvious people at the top, but there are also a couple of surprises. First, I want to say that no, Daniel Bryan will not be appearing in the Rumble. While he would get a huge reaction, they would not put him in the rumble without advertising it. Also, if they plan letting him wrestle again, they should save his return for Wrestlemania. Another theory floating around is that Dolph Ziggler will make his return and win the Rumble. So he is a dark horse candidate for sure. Just like the women’s rumble, I will try to predict the surprise entrants, the Iron Man, most eliminations, and the final four.

Surprise Entrants: Batista, Dolph Ziggler(would he be considered a surprise entrant?), Bobby Lashley, and Lars Sullivan.
Iron Man: Dolph Ziggler – 61 minutes
Most Eliminations: Roman Reigns – 7
Final Four: Dolph Ziggler, Roman Reigns, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Batista.

The two absolute favorites in this Rumble are Roman Reigns, and Shinsuke Nakamura. People have been predicting Roman vs. Brock since the end of last years Wrestlemania. AJ Styles has stated that Nakamura would be his dream opponent for Wrestlemania. While, I would love to see Nakamura or Dolph Ziggler pull this win out, I can just see WWE wanting to out Reigns over again in Philly just like they did a couple years ago. This time, they are seemingly getting off on the fact that the fans disliking Reigns so much. It just seems to predictable to me.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Hopefully, WWE can buck the trend of lackluster Royal Rumbles this year, but I’m not giving my hopes up. It’s the one PPV that I look forward to every year, but I haven’t been satistfied with a Royal Rumble winner since 2010. So who knows.
