I was going to do an audio version of this, but I have a cold, and I can barely speak at the moment. Hopefully, I can do the Royal Rumble predictions on Saturday. Let’s get right into this.
Velveteen Dream vs. Kassius Ohno
Winner: Velveteen Dream
This was the most recent match they added to the card. It’s kind of obvious that they have big plans for Velveteen Dream. So I fully expect him to pick up the victory. Ohno is one of my favorite workers to watch, but it seems as if he is going to be NXT’s new Tye Dillinger. He is over enough with the crowd to legitimize the new upcoming stars they want to push. Eventually, they will have to give him a big win, but I don’t think it’s going to be in this match. With that said, I’m looking forward to this match. Dream is an amazing young talent that is still a bit rough around the edges, and Ohno has always been an extraordinary worker. While there is no build up to this match, it could be a sleeper hit.
NXT Tag Team Championship
The Undisputed Era(Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly)(c) vs. The Authors of Pain
Winners: The Undisputed Era
The Undisputed Era picked up their first big win in The War Games match, then only a few weeks later they beat Sanity for the tag titles. AOP hasn’t really done much of anything as of recently with the exception of their performance in the War Games match. They tend to do some crazy things with the tag titles on NXT, like when the Revival picked up their 2nd title reign, but I don’t see that happening here. It seems like WWE is really getting behind the Street Profits as their next big face team on NXT, so I fully expect TUE to pick up the win here and quickly start feuding when them or the returning TM61. As far as AOP, I feel they will probably be moved to RAW or SDL sometime before WM34. I’m not sure what to expect from this match. Depsite AOP’s good track record, I still have a hard time getting excited about their matches. Though, it should be the best tag team match of the weekend.
NXT Women’s Championship
Ember Moon(c) vs. Shayna Baszler
Winner: Shayna Baszler
This was a tough prediction. Ember Moon really hasn’t had time to establish herself as champion, and they are really pushing Shayna Baszler to the moon at the moment. Shayna Baszler has been destroying everyone in matches, backstage segments, after matches. She is force to be reckon with. So I would have to go with Baszler. They haven’t had a heel NXT women’s champion since early in Charlotte’s run. While Shayna is still a bit green, she has the street cred to pull it off without people really caring. On top of that, are they really going to have Shayna get pinned this early in her run as top heel? I could see them pulling a DQ finish, but they tend not to do that kind of thing on TakeOver shows. I’m really looking forward to this match. Shayna put on a fantastic performance during the Mae Young Classic, and Ember Moon is one of the most athletic wrestlers on the NXT roster. Will it be a 5 star classic, probably not, but it should be fun nonetheless.
Extreme Rules Match
Adam Cole(BAY BAY!) vs. Aleister Black
Winner: Aleister Black
This was also a tough pick. Aleister suffered his first pinfall loss in the NXT Championship #1 Contenders Fatal-4-Way match, and Adam Cole has already suffered a loss to Aleister Black. With that said, I’m going to have to go with Aleister Black. I can’t see them having Aleister Black take two pinfall losses in a row. On top of that, Adam Cole is a heel, so he can get away with losing, and still remain at the top of the card. With that said, the match should be fantastic. It should be brutal and hard hitting. Hopefully, they can give us at least one brutal spot with thumbtacks or a flaming table or something like that. With the gimmick, it should be match of the night.
NXT Men’s Championship
Andrade “Cien” Almas(c) vs. Johnny Gargano
Winner: Andrade “Cien” Almas
The build up with the fatal-4-way match, and everybody doubting Johnny Gargano has been fantastic. Andrade already has two pinfall wins over Gargano with both times involving Salina Vega throwing a #DIY shirt in Johnny’s face. It will be interesting to see if the match ends the same way. The big question going into this match is whether Tommaso Ciampa will be healthy. If he is, I fully expect him to interfere in this match and cost Gargano the match. With that said, if Ciampa isn’t healthy, will they put the title on Gargano? It’s kind of obvious that they had no intention of putting Almas in this top spot before McIntyre got hurt, so will they put the title on Gargano going into the 2nd biggest TakeOver of the year? Either way, they have the talent to absolutely steal the entire weekend with this match. Gargano and Almas have this chemistry in the ring that very few wrestlers have. It should be a heck of a lot of fun.
I’m really looking forward to this show. This is probably one of the best looking takeover’s NXT has produced to date. All the matches have high expectations, and that says a lot about all the wrestlers involved.
